Before helping found Perry-Martel International, David Perry launched his career in engineering and construction executive search at a boutique executive recruiting firm in Ottawa, Canada in 1986.

His first assignment: Find a new Chief Estimator for a rapidly expanding general contractor.

Keeping the rapidly expanding nature of the company in mind, David began to pioneer what would later become Perry-Martel International’s guiding mantra, The Inside Out Approach. Using these principles to search and engage already employed individuals, David was not only successful, but it led to a 70% increase in executive search projects as that company expanded across North America.

Early in Perry-Martel’s start, he was contacted by Ellis-Don Construction’s CEO for a special search. They had an urgent need for their first ever Director of Public Relations and Marketing. Using The Inside Out Approach David was able to make the placement ahead of schedule. What’s more, it was a pivotal hire for Ellis-Don. The candidate stayed with the company for 26 years before retiring in 2018 as a senior executive having been responsible for billions in new work.
